Is Fascism Already Here But We Just Haven’t Admitted It to Ourselves?

Our Story:
During the 2024 Presidential campaign, then candidate Donald Trump commented that, if elected, he would be a dictator on day one “only.”Yet a number of other circumstances, including his aggressive support for the January 6 insurrectionists, heightened concerns that he intended to take actions that would endanger American freedoms.
- As Trump’s autocratic rhetoric and hate speech steadily increased, there was widespread public debate about whether he harbored dictatorial ambitions. That growing controversy led ICH2 to conduct a lengthy, dispassionate examination of whether Trump’s election would threaten American freedoms.
- ICH2’s painstaking analysis was presented in thirteen (13) YouTube videos examining the definition of fascism, the impact that a fascist dictatorship would have on our constitutional rights and freedoms, the likelihood that Trump wanted to be a fascist dictator and whether he could succeed in that ambition. While we concluded that the Bill of Rights would likely be decimated by Trump’s election and his moves toward a fascist dictatorship, he was elected in November 2024.
The Imminent Threat:
Since President Trump took office on January 21, 2025, his actions have confirmed our worst fears: he has tried to dramatically expand the power of the Presidency and to use that power to overwhelm the legislative and judicial branches of our government, all while he pursues his personal vengeance agenda against his broadly drawn enemies list. As a result, the role of ICH2 has shifted from a Paul Revere-like warning that “The fascists are coming!” before the election to something more like Patick Henry’s call to pre-Revolutionary War Virginians, “Give me liberty or give me death.”
Our Nonpartisan Principles:
ICH2 does not pretend that authoritarianism is a unique aspect of the Republican Party. On the other hand, only the current Republican Party led by Donald Trump, his billionaire oligarchs and the mindlessly obedient MAGA acolytes in Congress, is a real and present danger to American0 civil liberties. ICH2 fully appreciates that, after Trump is gone, another ambitious politician from the Democratic Party or another political organization may threaten our personal liberties with a similar grab for authoritarian power. ICH2 will oppose all future threats to Americans’ personal freedoms regardless of party affiliation.
